Reason 2345876498763 why i hate diet culture
You don't need me to tell you my opinion on diet culture. If you don't know, read this.
It can be really confusing trying to navigate and find out how to have a healthy lifestyle.
It's hard to find correct information, without being bombarded by diets, teas, supplements, cling film wraps, coffees, shakes, workouts, etc.
All of which promise you a slim 'toned' body, instant weight loss and forever health. Well, I can promise you that they only lead to disappointment, unhealthy habits and an evening on the toilet. Save your mental health. Save your money.
What are we supposed to do if we're told that:
We need to eat frequently to keep our metabolism in "fat burning mode" but the only way to lose weight is fasting?
We need to eat lots of fruit and veg, but carbs are the work of the devil.
We must never drink liquid calories, but the weight loss milkshake is going to give you the gift of 'health'.
Fat shouldn't be eaten, but you can only eat Fat and Protein on the Keto diet.
You can't eat chocolate 6 days of the week, but you can eat copius amounts on your 'cheat' day; and it doesn't 'count'.
Magic fat burning pills will bind and flush all the fat from your body but if you wrap your body in cling film, you'll sweat the fat out.
Fit teas transform your body, but you should only drink water or a juiced celery.
You must wake up early to workout for hours, but you can't lose weight if you don't get enough sleep.
I mean...what the fuck are we supposed to do?
There's the simple "eat less and move more", but it's an oversimplified analogy to what is a very, very complex world.
It misses out on nutritional, physical, mental, medical, financial, environmental factors. It makes losing weight seem simple, but it's not. Not in the culture we live in anyway.
