5 easy steps to a happier, healthier you

I've heard so many people saying that they're going on a diet, or working out to try and lose those lockdown pounds.

And, whilst I don't agree with diets, using exercise as a weight-loss tool or really the societal need to lose weight; I understand the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

Part of a healthy lifestyle is the food you eat. It's not everything, it's just a part of the makeup within a balanced, healthy lifestyle. But there's lots of evidence based studies that you can boost your mood with a healthy diet.

There's conflicting evidence online when trying to find advice, but I'm going to tell you 5 super easy steps that you can do right now for a happier, healthier you.

P.s. no you don't need Kev from the gym's nutri-shake.

1. Increase your fruit and vegetable intake to 8 - 10 servings per day
They are high in polyphenols, antioxidants, A, C, E, zinc and selenium which will all boost your immune system.

2. Eat protein at every meal
This will help to balance blood sugar levels and keep you feeling satisfied until the next meal or snack.

3. Eat a diet based on whole foods
- and use recipes that provide good nutrition to give you all the nutrients you need, including the very important B vitamins (found in whole grains, veg, fruits, meat, fish, eggs and dairy products).

4. Keep hydrated
Make sure you drink plenty of water - 1½ -2 litres per day - it's so important, especially in the sunshine

5. Sleep
Make sure you get enough sleep. I know it's hard when life gets in the way. It can really mess with your hormones

I know it's easier said than done. But make your health a priority. Give your body the love that it deserves - treat it well - it's yours, and yours only.

Eating nutritious foods not only helps to keep us physically well, but it can have a positive impact on our mood, our energy and our ability to think clearly too. Give these 5 steps a go today.
