You didn't fail the diet, the diet failed you.

 


I think you all know by now how much I hate - in fact, despise diet culture. 

Fad diets make me sick. Weight loss products make me want to throw a punch. Don't get me started on fasting. 

Here are just 3 reasons why fad diets will never work: 

Honestly mustering up the self-control to only list 3, because otherwise we'd be here until Christmas. 

 

1. They're unsustainable

Are you going to give up pasta forever? Are you going to skip breakfast for the rest of your life? Are you going to stop eating food and only drink replacement shakes? Can you survive and live a full life on only eggs and celery? 

The answer is no. Fuck off are you going to decline pizza for the rest of your life. No arguments. 

 

2. They provide temporary solutions

Once you stop dieting, you end up eating the same as you did before - which at the time was enough for your pre-diet body. This will cause you to put back on all the weight, and possibly more because it'll put you in a calorie surplus for your new weight. 

You may even eat more than before because you have been depriving your body of certain foods, food groups or just food in general; which causes you to over eat because you're now 'allowed' it. 

Fad diets don't address other issues like emotional eating, binging/restriction, demonisation of food, etc. So, guess what happens once you come off the diet? Back to the old, self-destructive patterns. 


3. Unrealistic expectations 

Has a product ever promised you that you'd drop 3 dress sizes in 1 week? Or 10lbs overnight? 

That's impossible. That's never going to happen. If it did, it's not healthy. It makes you think that you've failed because you're not at your desired weight in a week of cutting out pasta and drinking juice that tastes like piss. Besides, the companies that promise you that you'll have Kendall Jenner's body in a week just want your money. You buy their products that make you shit, you sit on the toilet for hours on end and end up with a dehydrated body, you lose weight on the scale - which is just the water weight that you've shat out. You still don't look like Kendall Jenner, but you lost weight on the scale due to dehydration and an empty colon. So, you buy it again and completely destroy your body, and mental health when you realise that you have been coned to fuck and you're left literally on the shitter. 

Please don't do it to yourself. Please. I beg. For the sake of your physical and mental health. They are designed to fail you.

Repeat after me: "I will never ever go on a diet again"
