All about Self-Sabotage
Self-sabotage can sometimes be knowing what is best for you, and not doing it. Repeatedly.
These can be small moments, like choosing food that doesn’t nourish you or maybe staying in bed all day when you know that you will be up until 2am catching up on work.
Or bigger decisions, like running back to your shitty boyfriend again and again and again and again and again and again and .....
But why do we do it?
1. Fear of failure.
Most of us are scared of failing. But failing says nothing about your worth as a person - despite what the media says about you. Change your relationship with failure and you will be less afraid.
2. Fear of success.
2. Fear of success.
Ever heard Bitchy Beatrice pipe up when you start dreaming big?
"you can't do that" "who do you think you are" etc. We know what she's like.
Ignore her. You are deserving, capable and worthy of all that you work for. You are not defined by Bitchy Bea.
3. Feeling undeserving.
When we start moving towards a goal, we acknowledge that we are a novice and this often motivates us to keep going. But, the truth is, there's always more to learn - in any field. You will never know everything.
Often people feel undeserving of success, status or power when it starts to materialise because they don't feel like they know or are enough.
The reason for this is cognitive dissonance. Our actions tend to be in line with our core beliefs. When they are different, it disrups our view on the world. So, if we start to feel an increase in status, but hold the deep rooted belief that we are worthless, flawed or deficient, then we start to engage in behaviours that are more in line with those beliefs. Failing is hard but success can be unbearable.

I want to remind you that you are enough. You are worthy. You are deserving.
Now go and kick some ass.
4. Feelings of guilt or shame for having something good.
Linked to imposter syndrome, is the discomfort that comes with any achievement. The higher you get, the further you can fall. You fear being called out as a fake or an imposter because you believe that you are fake. Thinking that way causes stress, so a dollop of procrastination pushes that away nicely.
But we know that procrastination doesn't play nicely and leads to a cycle of self sabotage.
Do you self sabotage? Does it get in the way of you being able to achieve your goals?
Take a moment of self reflection to think about your goals and what you are doing to reach them. Are you getting in your own way?
You've got this.
