Happiness isn't the ultimate goal in life

We all want to be happy.

We all look to do things daily that make us happy.

Happiness is a good feeling. A sense of joy, well-being and contentment.

But it shouldn't be the ultimate goal in life.

Why?

Well you'll end up very unhappy if all you aspire to be is happy.

You'll be disappointed. Life is full of things to be unhappy about.

Imagine you have a family memeber who is in hospital. It's unlikely that you'll be happy about it - the same certainly goes for them.

Would you not go because it doesn't make you happy? It' a heartwrenching experience. Why go if it's going to make you unhappy?

Well of course you go.

And, why do you go?

Because you care. Because they matter to you.

Happiness is an emotion. It comes and goes, just like sadness, just like a wave.

But we endure it all, because it matters.
Things that matter don't come and go like a wave in St Tropez. They're here for the long-haul.

What if we filled our life with things that matter instead of the things that just make us happy?

What is my goal in life? fulfillment.

With fulfillment comes happiness, it brings sadness too. It brings everything. But it is a full life. A life that matters.
